Bismi Thottiyil Sultanmuhammed Abdul Khadar is a Registered Nurse with over 15 years of clinical experience in aged care who has had the privilege to work in Australian and Irish aged care settings. This exposure has broadened their understanding and perspectives towards the aged care health sector.
She is committed to enhancing the quality of life for older people in residential aged care facilities. With a focus on enhancing knowledge of infection, prevention, and control, Bismi works closely with organizations such as ACIPC and ACN to continuously engage in healthcare and IPC courses.
Her master’s dissertation examined the leadership role of registered nurses in infection prevention and control in aged care facilities and highlighted the significant role of nurse leaders and the importance of role modelling in a health care environment.
Bismi believes that significant improvements can be achieved working together through quality research and the practical application of its findings in this field.
She is leading a research study involving air purifiers and residents of aged care settings to examine their impact on reducing the incidence of acute respiratory infections in these facilities. She is also highly keen to apply the results of this study and extend its application to the wider aged care facility community both nationally and internationally.
