HMRI Board

The HMRI Board oversees the management and strategic direction of HMRI, comprising three independent Directors from each of HMRI’s principal partners – Hunter New England Local Health District, the University of Newcastle and the community – while the Chair of the Board is also a community appointment.

Tax Status

The Hunter Medical Research Institute (ABN: 27 081 436 919) is an Australian Public Company.

HMRI is a Health Promotion Charity and has been endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a deductible gift recipient under Subdivision 30-BA of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 (Subdivision 30-B 1.1.5) as a public institution engaged solely in research into the causes, prevention or cure of disease in human beings, animals or plants.

HMRI also has a current Authority to Fundraise for Charitable Purposes (registration number CFN16214), issued by the Office of Charities in the NSW Department of Gaming and Racing.
