About our speakers
Peter Evans AM - Peter offers vast experience and understanding of commercial and estate matters, being admitted as a solicitor in 1969 and a partner at Harris Wheeler from 1971–1986. He has acted at partner level for organisations such as Newcastle City Council, Greater Building Society Ltd., Citibank Limited, ANZ and other banks and financial institutions. He has acted for both plaintiffs and defendants in numerous actions in the Supreme Court of NSW. Peter is a former board member of the State Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Inaugural and past Chairman of the Newcastle City Centre Committee. Deputy Chairman GH Varley Pty. Ltd. Board member of Newcastle & Hunter Business Chamber and Honorary Solicitor.
Brian McGuigan AM - Brian McGuigan is one of Australia’s foremost winemakers and marketers. He founded the Wyndham Estate Wine Company at Dalwood in the Hunter Valley in the 1970’s, which grew to be one of the most successful wine companies in Australia. Following the sale of Wyndham in 1991, Brian established a new company, Brian McGuigan Wines, well known not just in Australia, but internationally too.
This success has allowed Brian and his wife Fay McGuigan to honour the profoundly tragic loss of their cherished daughter, Vanessa, who passed away just weeks after her 21st birthday from ovarian cancer. Brian and Fay, together with the University of Newcastle, have jointly funded a 10-year HMRI Fellowship dedicated to ovarian cancer research.
