Genetic risk factors, gene expression and ischaemic stroke

About 85% of acute strokes are ischaemic involving blockage of blood vessels supplying oxygen to the brain. Recently several robust genetic risk factors for ischaemic stroke have been identified. This project will determine how these genetic risk factors change gene expression in human carotid atherosclerotic plaque. This project will provide important insights into the biology of ischaemic stroke.
