Hear her story below…
A miracle didn’t save her life. It was medical research.
Crystal was given Tenecteplase right when she needed it most. Thatโs because our researchers are also embedded within the health service.
HMRIโs stroke trial found that two-thirds of patients treated with the trial drug, Tenecteplase, had major neurological improvements within a day. And 3 months later, 75% of patients experienced excellent or good recovery.
Our clinical trial for stroke delivered a breakthrough treatment that has become the standard practice worldwide.
Because of HMRI, our world-famous researchers and clinicians have made significant breakthroughs in preventing and understanding stroke.
However, the Australian Government funds only 8% of our medical research grant applications each year, meaning 92% of HMRI researchers are knocked back. Even outstanding ideas that could improve care, preventdisease, or save lives have less than a 1 in 10 chance of being funded through traditionalgrant schemes.
โWithout the research, I probably wouldnโt be talking to you today.โ – Crystal Fitzgibbon, stroke survivor
You can change lives and help us discover better ways to treat and manage illness by investing in our talented researchers and clinicians.
