Markey Insurance Brokers have presented HMRI the proceeds from their annual Charity Golf Day. – a $30,000 donation to support Breast Cancer Research.

This year’s event was held at Belmont Golf Course with more than 100 golfers stepping out in their best pink ensembles for a great cause.

The first Markey Charity Golf Day was held after the loss of their much loved workmate, Ryan Tomkins, who died as a result of a severe asthma attack.

roving successful, the first Charity Golf Day in 2008 raised $40,000 for research at HMRI specifically focused on asthma and its effects on young people.

Simmone Markey, Chief Financial Officer for Markey Insurance Brokers, said each year a Hunter region charity is chosen for the proceeds of the Golf Day on the basis the organisation has touched the lives of their employees in some way.“HMRI was chosen this year because we believe that research is the best way of assisting breast cancer sufferers,” she said.“Our hope is that this will enable research to progress so that help is available for families in the future”.

HMRI is a partnership between the University of Newcastle, Hunter New England Health and the community.
