Dr Prudence Lopez is a Paediatric Endocrinologist at the John Hunter Children’s Hospital and a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle.
She completed her Bachelor of Medicine at the University of Newcastle in 2006 and PhD in Paediatrics focusing on reducing hyperglycaemia for children utilising insulin pump therapy in 2018. She continues this work with Professor Bruce King, Dr Carmel Smart and their research team.
Prudence has been an active member of the International Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD) and the Australia and New Zealand Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, sitting on multiple committees. Prudence also co-authored internationally recognised guidelines for ISPAD.
Prudence is a member of the ENDIA study group, a national collaborative seeking to understand the causes of autoimmunity leading to type 1 diabetes and work towards developing a cure.
Prudence is actively involved in education and training of medical students and Paediatric Endocrinology trainees through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
Prudence is a member of the Hunter New England Human Research Ethics Committee.
