Dr James Lynam is the Head of Medical Oncology at Calvary Mater Hospital Newcastle, specialising in brain, genitourinary, and gastrointestinal cancers. Since 2014, he has served as a senior clinician there. Following his Fellowship, Dr. Lynam has been actively involved in clinical trials as the Principal Investigator for multiple trials from Phase I to III.

He currently chairs the Clinical Cancer Research Network, which encompasses eight Clinical Trials Units (CTUs) across various cancer specialties within the Hunter New England Local Health District. This network’s efforts have significantly broadened the clinical trial portfolio and enhanced efficiency, earning the 2020 NSW Premier’s Award for Outstanding Clinical Trials Unit.

Dr Lynam is also the Oncology Lead for the ClinTrial Refer App, which has improved patient recruitment and referrals for cancer trials across NSW.

In education, he is a member of several committees within the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and was the Chair of the Medical Oncology Advanced Training Committee, overseeing training in Australia and New Zealand.

He serves on the scientific committee of the TransTasman Radiation Oncology Group (TROG) and is involved with the Australian and New Zealand Urogenital and Prostate Cancer Trials Group (ANZUP) on testicular and bladder cancer committees. Additionally, he is the deputy chair of the Executive Committee of the Medical Oncology Group of Australia (MOGA).
