Driving efficient, equitable and affordable health services

health economics

At Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI), our Health Economics team uses advanced health economics methods to evaluate health services and technologies in the Hunter New England region and beyond.

Demand for health services and technologies is increasing in our region and globally. To meet the health and wellbeing needs of our communities, healthcare resources must be allocated efficiently and equitably.

When new medical discoveries come at a higher cost, it is important to evaluate their cost-effectiveness to provide evidence for decision-makers wanting to ensure efficient and equitable access to healthcare.

Our Health Economics team uses advanced health economics methods to provide clear, actionable evidence that guides resource allocation decisions in healthcare and government policy.

We evaluate proposed or actual health service changes across our Hunter New England region and beyond. Our services provide decision-makers with evidence-based insights, equipping them with the information they need to invest into innovations that deliver the best outcomes for patients and return on investment for our community.

Health economics plays a crucial role in improving how we translate medical research into practice.

At HMRI, our health and medical researchers are creating new and innovative healthcare solutions and treatments everyday.

It is vital for our healthcare system to deliver efficient and effective services. It’s also vital for our community to have access to safe, high value care that improves their health.

Our team takes a holistic, comprehensive approach to health economics analysis taking into account a wide range of factors that make up a valuable, sustainable healthcare system.

Our clinician-researchers and healthcare professionals are immersed in our healthcare systems everyday. They witness first-hand the areas that need improvement, the areas that are wasteful, and the areas where we can transform patient care.

Our health economists work with healthcare professionals, academic researchers, government agencies and industry to evaluate new health innovations and models of care. Our specialists are leading the way in evaluating health services to identify cost-effective strategies that help to transform health and wellbeing in our communities.
