Operated in collaboration with the University of Newcastle and Hunter New England Health, the HMRI Imaging Centre is the premier choice in the Hunter Region for advanced functional MRI, diffusion MRI, cardiac and abdominal MRI, MRSI, and multinuclear capabilities. About the Opportunity A unique opportunity currently exists for an Indigenous Imaging Fellow to join our specialised team within our Imaging Centre. The Fellow will bring an Indigenous perspective and foster a culturally safe environment, helping to identify specific research priorities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and enhancing access to biomedical research facilities for these purposes. As a member of the Imaging Centre research team, the Fellow will have the opportunity to contribute to designing innovative imaging projects, including developing research designs and analysing imaging data across two major ongoing projects. The first project, Deadly Images, aims to create meaningful connections with our community, ensuring that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are not only participants in research but also play a key role in guiding its direction. The second project focuses on Exploring the Healing Properties of Indigenous Native Plants, where the Imaging Centre is guided by Indigenous Elders and collaborating with national Indigenous researchers on cutting-edge research into Indigenous medicinal plants. This role is offered on 0.4 FTE 15.2 hours per week, maximum-term contract for 12 months, with the option to extend pending funding. A competitive salary, based on skills and experience, includes attractive salary packaging tax-free benefits available to HMRI staff. How to Apply This is an identified position for an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander candidate. Applicants must be of Aboriginal descent, identify as Aboriginal, and be accepted as such within the community. The successful candidate will have knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communication practices, and the ability to deliver services and programs that support both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal employees and community members. Exemption is claimed under the provisions of section 126 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977. Aboriginal applicants must demonstrate Aboriginality as one of the essential position requirements. Even if you do not meet all the other essential requirements, we encourage you to apply. All applications should be forwarded to [email protected] and must include an up-to-date resume as well as a cover letter, addressing the essential position requirements as outlined in the attached position description.
