Tammie Jakstas is a qualified accredited practising dietitian (APD) and secondary school teacher.

She began her career as a food science and home economics teacher before pursuing a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics at The University of Sydney. She has previously worked in public health on the SALSA (Students As LifeStyle Activists) and Triple A (Adolescent Asthma Action) projects that focus on the importance of students as change agents within their schools, homes and communities.

Tammie has a love of all things food and cooking demonstrated by her 14 years involvement in the Home Economic Institute of Australia. Nutrition education has been at the core of Tammie’s work including individual patient care in private practice, within the school classroom, and in her work in public health.

As a former teacher herself, Tammie is currently undertaking her PhD to help better evaluate the influence of food and nutrition practices on teacher wellbeing.

Her focus is to look at ways food and nutrition can be included within wellbeing interventions to help teachers, both in improving their food and nutrition wellbeing and in arming them to become more confident in their ability as food and nutrition influencers, health promoters, and role models at their schools.
