Research Programs

Chief Investigator in the ARC Research Hub for Connected Sensors for Health, leading research in human-centred design and sound-based health technologies.
Performed at ISEA 2024 Brisbane, Fox and Drum — an interactive electroacoustic performance exploring modular synthesis and transformation of acoustic sound.
Commissioned by Alice Giles for Helix Sequencing, transforming genomic data into real-time musical performance.

Associate Professor Jon Drummond is an academic and researcher in music and sound technology in the University of Newcastle’s School of Humanities, Creative Industries and Social Sciences. His research and creative work, grounded in practice-based inquiry, spans interactive electroacoustics, creative robotics, acoustic ecology, and the sonification of natural phenomena, with a focus on real-time performance systems and human-computer interaction. His work has been presented at leading international events including the Adelaide Festival, ISEA, ICMC, NIME, and the World Forum for Acoustic Ecology.

As a Chief Investigator in the ARC Research Hub for Connected Sensors for Health, Associate Professor Drummond leads the University of Newcastle’s contribution, focusing on human-centred design, digital health, and wearable sensor technologies. His work advances co-design, usability, and creative technology prototyping, with an emphasis on developing AI-driven health tools that integrate data visualisation and sound to support wellbeing.
