Minister welcomes Jets community deal with HMRI

Minister for the Hunter, Minister for Science and Medical Research and Member for Newcastle Jodi McKay today congratulated the Newcastle Jets and the Hunter Medical Research Institute on their new community partnership.

Minister for the Hunter, Minister for Science and Medical Research and Member for Newcastle Jodi McKay today congratulated the Newcastle Jets and the Hunter Medical Research Institute on their new community partnership.

“Both the Jets and the HMRI are much loved community assets and it’s great to see them come together in this innovative way.

Ms McKay said the Jets will display the HMRI logo on the front of their playing strip until a major sponsor deal is finalised.

“I’m told that the Jets will also donate $2500 to the Institute for every AWAY goal the Jets score and $5,000 for every HOME goal to HMRI for every goal scored by the team.

“What better motivation for the players and the fans than to know every goal scored by the Jets will bring HMRI a step closer to finding a cure for some of our deadliest diseases.

Ms McKay said that in little over a decade, HMRI has provided medical solutions in a range of fields including infertility, schizophrenia, breast and prostate cancer, heart disease and ageing.

“The Jets’ support for HMRI will help the institute continue its outstanding work in a range of fields.

“I’m proud to have served the Institute and supported its work to date, both as a former Board Member and today as the State Minister responsible for medical research.

“The pioneering work of its researchers, the passion and commitment of its staff, and the enormous pride with which it is regarded by the community all make the Hunter Medical Research Institute a very special organisation,” Ms McKay said.
