Dr Abhijit Chowdhury is a medical doctor, educator, and researcher. He is a penultimate-year Clinical Epidemiology and Medical Statistics doctoral candidate at the University of Newcastle Australia.

He is an Associate Lecturer in Medical Education at University of Newcastle and a Higher Education Academy (Advance HE, UK) fellow. He is also a member of the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee for the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing at University of Newcastle.

Abhijit’s doctoral project, supported by University of Newcastle postgraduate scholarships and grants, explored the effect of depression, anxiety and antidepressant medications on osteoporosis and fracture among adult Australians. He analysed the health data from two large Australian cohort studies for this project. His research aims to influence policy decisions for optimal bone health screening among people living with depression and anxiety.

Abhijit has a developing portfolio in contemporary medical education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

With over seven years of experience, he is skilled in developing and facilitating engaging and effective learning sessions for medical students across multiple universities. His teaching philosophy is to create a safe and kind learning environment where learners can ask questions, receive hands-on training and work as a team to reach their full potential.
