Professor Wood is Pro Vice Chancellor of the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing at the University of Newcastle.
Professor Wood undertook her undergraduate science degree at University of Sydney, then, following a 6-year term working in the food industry, she completed her PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry at the University of Newcastle. She undertook an NHMRC Postdoctoral Fellowship in respiratory research at HMRI, Newcastle.
In 2010, Professor Wood took up an academic position in biomedical sciences at the University of Newcastle, combining research and teaching responsibilities. She was subsequently promoted to full professor and in 2020 was appointed as Head of School of Biomedical Sciences and Pharmacy.
In 2023 she undertook a 6-month secondment as Pro Vice Chancellor Student Engagement at the University of Newcastle. Professor Wood has held a wide range of leadership positions in University governance, education, and research, both internally and externally through her professional organisations in nutrition and respiratory medicine. Of particular note, she served as President of the Nutrition Society of Australia from 2018-19, Australian Nutrition Trust Director from 2012-21 and is currently a member of the Asthma Australia Research Advisory Committee.
