HIC Services is proud to present The HMRI Art Series Exhibition, combining the precision of science with the creativity of art. This event showcases the latest research from leading HMRI scientists alongside the work of more than 50 highly acclaimed local artists, resulting in an inspiring display of innovation and creativity. 

Since 2005, the HMRI Art Series, generously funded by Chris and Shirley Piggott, has become a beloved annual collaboration between HMRI’s Researcher of the Year and a local artist. 

“This year, we are excited to feature Tyler Dan as our Artist in Residence, whose work is inspired by Hunter New England LHD Trauma Surgeon and University of Newcastle Professor, Zsolt Balogh and his groundbreaking work within the HMRI Injury and Trauma Research Program,” said Dr. Giavanna Angeli, HMRI’s Head of Philanthropy. 

“Their stunning project, The Tyranny of Sensitivity, powerfully transforms cutting-edge scientific research into a captivating masterpiece. This collaboration embodies the spirit of the HMRI Art Series, where data meets emotion, and science finds its expression through art.” 

The HMRI Art Series Exhibition offers several unique opportunities to get involved 

Whether you’re an art connoisseur, a supporter of medical research, or simply looking for a weekend of culture, the HMRI Art Series Exhibition is an unmissable event. 

Community members are invited to connect with the creatives at the Meet the Artists Opening Night event on Saturday, 2 November or enjoy an elegant Long Lunch on Sunday, 3 November featuring distinguished guests including artist Professor Zsolt Balogh.

The long lunch is the pinnacle of the weekend according to Amy-Lea Pettigrew, Chair of the HMRI Foundation Special Events Committee. “Picture a relaxing afternoon enjoying delicious Italian food prepared by Alfie’s Italian, along with a four-hour premium drinks package. The long lunch is perfect for art lovers and anyone who enjoys good company, great food, and the opportunity to support art that makes a difference.” 

Bid online to take home a masterpiece and help HMRI take healthy further

For those who can’t attend the series in person, there is an online auction. Art lovers can bid on unique pieces, with all proceeds supporting HMRI’s ambitions to create the healthiest million people for the planet.  
 
Among the featured artists are acclaimed talents like Aksara Harriram, Ben Kenning, Brydie Piaf, and Fiona Clark, each bringing their own unique vision and mastery.  
 
“Our generous community, supporters, and friends all help drive HMRI’s mission, and this exhibition is a great chance to support medical research while also taking home a stunning piece of art,” said Amy-Lea Pettigrew from the HMRI Foundation. 

“With an incredible range of artworks ranging from $400 to $5,000, there’s something to suit every taste and budget. I am deeply grateful to our talented artists for their generous support of HMRI and the Art Series.”  

To recognise the generous support from our local artists, they can receive up to 30% of the market price of their works. The remaining funds going directly to support life-changing medical research at HMRI.”  

This is more than an exhibition; it’s HMRI’s opportunity to uplift the local art scene while fueling health innovation.
