World COPD Day at HMRI | COPD and the Benefits of Exercise

November 15, 2023 - 11:00am to 1:00pm

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease  (COPD), is an umbrella term for emphysema, and chronic bronchitis. COPD affects around 10% of the Australian population, half of whom don't know they have it and unknowingly mistake their symptoms as signs of ageing or lack of fitness.

With over a decade of experience in respiratory health research, Dr Hayley Lewthwaite is a recognised authority in the field of COPD. Her work has been instrumental in identifying new therapeutic approaches, offering hope to those living with the condition.

World COPD Day is an opportunity to raise awareness, share knowledge, and discuss ways to reduce the burden of COPD. We invite you to come along and join Dr Lewthwaite and her team for a special event at HMRI. During this event, Dr. Lewthwaite will draw upon her extensive expertise to provide invaluable insights into the condition, emphasising the importance of early detection and intervention.

Following the session, we invite you to a therapeutic chair-based yoga session followed by a light lunch where you can network and discuss COPD and the benefits of exercise.

When: Wednesday 15 November 2023
Time: 11.00 am - 1.00 pm
Where: Cameron Room, Level 4 East, HMRI Building, John Hunter Hospital Campus
