Digestive disorders remain a major health burden.

We aim to understand diabetes-related factors that lead to debilitating gastric motility disorders. We will investigate the mechanisms underlying the propagation and directionality of the contractions in the stomach and how damage to interstitial cells of Cajal, the pacemaker cells of the gastrointestinal tract alters this. This will provide a foundation for developing treatments that better control diabetes-related motility disorders.
