Understanding Breathlessness in Asthma

Understanding Breathlessness in Asthma

Adults with asthma are needed to help researchers better understand breathlessness.

‘…you’re fighting every breath that you have to breathe’.
A person with severe asthma on the daily burden

Breathlessness is one of the most common and troubling symptoms that people with asthma report. Breathlessness is a disturbing symptom that may have many causes.

In this study, we aim to understand the many possible causes of breathlessness in people with asthma of any severity. We also aim to understand people’s experiences of breathlessness and the many aspects of life that breathlessness might affect.

The study is open to adults 18 years and over with asthma of any severity, unless pregnant, currently diagnosed with cancer or a life-limiting illness, or unable to speak, read or hear English.

If you agree to participate in this study, you will be asked to sign the Participant Consent Form.
The study involves three components:

  • A characterisation study, involving two consecutive visits 2-4 weeks apart on which you will undergo a series of tests and measurements;
  • An optional interview, and
  • An optional art-based (painting or drawing) activity.

If you would like to participate in the study, please contact Clinical Trial Coordinator:
