The first Hunter Medical Research Institute Foundation Art exhibition and online auction was held from 24-28 November at Earp Distilling Co in Carrington.
The event featured 43 artworks generously donated by some of the region’s best and upcoming artists. The works were displayed in the barrel room space at Earp Distilling Co and were all available to purchase via an online auction.
Included in the event were two of HMRI’s art series works. Last year’s “Beat” by Brett McMahon and this year’s “Conversations” by Brittany Ferns.
Traditionally, HMRI auctions the Art series paintings at the HMRI Ball each year. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing pandemic, HMRI has not held the ball for two years. The new Art Exhibition and Auction was developed to show these artworks and raise much-needed funds for medical research.
HMRI Director Mike Calford said that it was great to hold an in-person event after so many cancellations over the last couple of years.
“Personally, it was great to get out again for a HMRI fundraising event after such a long hiatus due to COVID,” Professor Calford said.
“I want to thank the HMRI Foundation and everyone else who helped to organise this fantastic event.
“Thank you to everyone who bid on the artwork or attended one of the events in person and a special thank you to all the artists who donated their works for the auction.”
“You have given our researchers a tremendous gift.”
The five-day exhibition also included two sold-out ticked events. On Friday 26 around 200 people were able to meet the artists at a cocktail event and on Sunday 28 a Long Lunch was held to wrap up the event.
