Conjoint Professor Parker Magin has a background as a general practitioner and as a primary care health researcher. He leads the General Practice Training Unit of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

His principal current research interests are the in-practice clinical and educational experiences and behaviours of GP registrars; medicines use in older patients, including deprescribing; antibiotic stewardship; and dementia.

Within the broad scope of his research into registrars’ practice, particular research strands include registrars’ antibiotic prescribing, use of telehealth, and prescribing of psychoactive medicines.
