Professor Peter Gibson is a respiratory physician, clinical researcher and part of the severe asthma service at John Hunter Hospital.
Professor Gibson and his team at Hunter Medical Research Institute have been instrumental in developing the Treatable Traits model of care for airways diseases.
Professor Gibson is a Chief Investigator for the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Centre of Excellence in Asthma Treatable Traits and leads the Australasian severe asthma registry.
Professor Gibson’s internationally recognised innovative research includes inflammatory subtypes of asthma and cough; airway biomarkers; neurogenic mechanisms and laryngeal dysfunction in chronic cough; and multidimensional assessment and management of complex airway disorders. He has been awarded several research honours, including the 2018 ERS Gold Medal in Asthma.
