Dr Adam Shoesmith is a postdoctoral Research Fellow in Public Health and Behavioural Science through the University of Newcastle. He is also affiliated with the National Centre of Implementation Science and Hunter New England Population Health.

In 2024, Dr Shoesmith was awarded his PhD and was also awarded a Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) Population Health Research Fellowship. Dr Shoesmith has worked in chronic disease prevention for 6 years and has led seminal research examining the sustainability of evidence-based chronic disease prevention initiatives in schools and early childcare settings.

Dr Shoesmith has delivered training to over 500 policymakers and health practitioners nationally and internationally to sustain the delivery of preventive health initiatives.

He has 20 peer-reviewed publications cited 280 times, been awarded over $270,000 in competitive grant funding, presented his research more than 40 times nationally and internationally, established collaborations with researchers from 6 universities globally, is an active member on local, state & national population health committees and is an Editorial Board Member and Peer Reviewer for international journals, grant schemes and conferences.

Dr Shoesmith has delivered physical activity programs to >250 primary schools across six local health districts in NSW.

He has extensive experience in co-designing, co-producing and co-disseminating community-based preventive health programs, in partnership with government and non-government organisations, and research institutions to ensure effective translation of evidence into policy and practice leads to sustained positive health outcomes for populations.
