Dr Bronwyn Berthon is a nutrition scientist and clinical trial coordinator at The University of Newcastle, and Research Program Manager of the Immune Health Program at the Hunter Medical Research Institute. They graduated with a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics (BND Hons 1 & Medal, UoN) in 2010 and a PhD (Medical Biochemistry, UoN) in 2014.
Dr Berthon’s research aims to develop evidence for dietary intake strategies and non-pharmacological therapies from dietary nutrients and alternative supplements to optimise health in ageing, obesity and other inflammatory conditions such as asthma and COPD. Their research uses innovative interdisciplinary approaches to create translatable evidence to improve human health and disease.
Dr Berthon’s expertise is demonstrated in clinical trial study design and execution, dietary intake and nutritional biomarker assessment and clinical assessment of airways disease. While their role is clinically focused, they also collaborate with laboratory-based scientists to interrogate the mechanistic pathways between diet and nutrient intake and disease pathology, specifically in asthma and obesity.
