Dr Camille Esneau

Researcher, University of Newcastle

Research Programs

Camille Esneau is a postdoctoral researcher in virology, focusing on respiratory virus diversity and host-pathogen interactions.

Her research seeks to understand how virus diversity relates to the development of severe respiratory illnesses, to develop antiviral therapies against those viruses.

Camille holds a PhD in Immunology and Microbiology from University of Newcastle and works with Professor Nathan Bartlett, in collaboration with Australian and international industry and academic partners.

In particular, Camille has fostered a strong collaborative relationship with the Kirby Institute (University of New South Wales, Sydney) and maintains an adjunct associate lecturer title with the University of New South Wales.

Camille has acquired extensive knowledge and skills for working with different human pathogenic viruses (including class III pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2), using advanced cell culture models with human airway epithelial cells (differentiated at air-liquid interface to recapitulate the structure, physiology and host-specific characteristics of the human airway epithelium).
