Dr Mathieu Figeys

Dr. Mathieu Figeys is an interdisciplinary clinician-scientist who joined the University of Newcastle from Canada. With a robust technological focus on clinical research and innovation, Dr. Figeys draws on an extensive background in nursing, rehabilitation medicine, gerontology, and neuroscience to conduct research across clinical, academic and industry sectors with an emphasis on ageing.

Previously, Dr. Figeys has applied neuromodulatory and functional neuroimaging approaches to older adults with depression, anxiety, Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), and dementia. Additionally, he has utilised experimental brain stimulation approaches in individuals living with post-stroke aphasia.

Mathieu also brings experience working with various industry partners to test and implement innovative solutions in the healthcare sector, such as novel medical and rehabilitation devices as well as digital health technologies.

With experience in clinical research and practice, Dr. Figeys specialises in clinical randomised controlled trials, implementation studies, feasibility analysis, and product validation. His expertise in these areas drives significant progress in nursing, rehabilitation, and gerontechnology (AgeTech), with a particular emphasis on enhancing patient-centered care for older adults.

Dr. Figeys has a keen interest in experimental neurotechnology to prevent and mitigate cognitive decline, non-invasive neuromodulation approaches, as well as testing novel technologies to support ageing.
