Dr Megan Freund is a Senior Research Academic with the Health Behaviour Research Collaborative at the University of Newcastle who has worked in health behaviour and promotion research for over 24 years.
Between 2007 and 2013, Dr Freund held HMRI and Newcastle Institute of Public Health Postdoctoral Research Fellowships. She was awarded an NHMRC Translation Research into Practice (TRIP) Fellowship in 2018 and the Hunter Children’s Research Foundation CARE Award in 2023. Dr Freund is the lead investigator on a current $3 million NHMRC grant addressing the health and care needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living with dementia and their communities, and an NHMRC-funded grant that aims to improve implementation of quality health assessments for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients in mainstream general practice. Dr Freund is also a Chief Investigator on an Asthma Australia funded research project examining the effectiveness of smart inhaler devices for improving health outcomes for young children with asthma.
