Dr Nafiseh Ghafournia has a PhD in Social Policy and Gender Studies and has worked as a conjoint lecturer, researcher, and sessional academic at the University of Newcastle.
Her research revolves around gender-based violence, social policy, gender and immigration and public health.
She has worked as a Multicultural Health Liaison Officer in Hunter New England Health (NSW Health) and as a senior state-wide domestic violence educator in the Education Centre Against Violence ( ECAV) at Western Sydney’s local health district.
She has extensive experience working with immigrants and refugees and delivers regular invited lectures and training to health professionals on the cultural aspects of health and cultural competency.
