Professor Nathan Bartlett has dedicated over 20 years to viral immunology and the pathogenesis of virus-induced diseases, primarily viral asthma exacerbations.
He has developed and led the Viral Immunology and Respiratory Disease group (University of Newcastle, located in Hunter Medical Research Institute).
His work has made internationally important contributions and led to the development of new therapies currently in clinical trials. This has been achieved through a strong record of collaboration with clinical researchers and translational research.
This has positioned the group favourably to utilise a variety of integrated therapeutic approaches (viral vaccine vectors, innate immune modulators, antibody/nanobody-based therapeutics, RNA interference, nanomedicines and small molecule-based drugs) and models (primary bronchial epithelial cell air-liquid-interface culture, donated lung sections, mice models of respiratory disease).
