Laureate Professor Rodney Scott

The prestigious title of Laureate Professor has been bestowed on HMRI’s Information Based Medicine program co-leader Rodney Scott in recognition of his remarkable research career and outstanding contributions in the field of medical genetics.

It is among the highest academic honours conferred at the University of Newcastle, and he joins a select group that includes John Aitken, Rob Sanson-Fisher, Nick Talley, Roger Smith and Paul Foster.

Internationally regarded in his field, Laureate Professor Scott has been recognised as a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK), Fellow of the Human Genetics Society of Australasia, Fellow of the Faculty of Science (Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia) and with a Privatdozent (DSc equivalent) from the University of Basel, Switzerland.

“Rodney has achieved remarkable success during his time at UON.  We are proud to celebrate his outstanding research career through the awarding of this title,” UON Vice-Chancellor Professor Caroline McMillen said.

Laureate Professor Scott has generated more than $37 million in research income and has been continuously funded by the ARC, NHMRC and the National Breast Cancer Foundation. He has also contributed to over 500 publications, many in the highest ranking journals in the world.
