Dr Varadhan is the Director of Microbiology at NSW Health Pathology, John Hunter Hospital and chairs several sub-committees in relation of pathology service in New South Wales.
Her interests include rapid diagnosis of infectious Diseases, antimicrobial resistance and health economics.
Dr Varadhan has published several articles and her current research projects include metagenomics in prosthetic joint infections, molecular epidemiology of Streptococcus pyogenes and health economic analysis on diagnostic assays.
