Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is an incredibly powerful tool in medical research. The HMRI Imaging Centre houses a 3T Siemens MAGNETOM Prisma, a world-leading MRI machine designed for research.Â
Our imaging technology at HMRI is the best in the Southern Hemisphere, equipped with high-quality imaging technologies and capabilities including:
With its higher gradient strength, the machine allows for more advanced techniques, specialised modes, higher-resolution images and superior data quality.Â
We also have a range of specially designed magnetic gradient coils for more unique scans into structural and functional connectivity, such as observing brain function in real-time. These help to capture clearer and higher-resolution images by using different coils to focus on different body parts.Â
The HMRI Imaging Centre is run in partnership with The University of Newcastle and Hunter New England Local Health District. Together, we’re committed to providing our region with imaging capabilities that drive health solutions.Â
HMRI’s Imaging Centre is also a National Imaging Facility (NIF) Network Partner, and was the first regional partner of NIF. Our partnership with NIF enables national collaboration and creates efficiencies for multisite clinical trials.
Our Imaging Centre provides direct links with regional and rural communities, facilitated through the University of Newcastle’s established regional research engagement programs. Our location and commitment to regional health enables us to improve health outcomes in priority populations including Aboriginal communities, and regional/rural communities.Â
