Research Programs

Alexandra Potter is a PhD candidate exploring how mental health professionals in non-peer roles navigate their lived experience of suicide within the workplace.

Her research is grounded in critical suicide prevention, lived experience scholarship, and systems change, and is informed by both professional expertise and personal experience.
With over 15 years’ experience spanning mental health, suicide prevention, policy, and program design, Alexandra has worked across government, non-government, and community sectors. She currently works as Priority Projects Manager for the Suicide Prevention and System Improvement team at HNELHD where she focuses on translating evidence, lived experience insights, and policy into clinical practice and service improvement. Her work supports system-wide reform, quality improvement, and safer, more responsive care.

Alexandra holds a Bachelor of Psychology and a Master of Public Health from the University of Newcastle. She has held leadership and advocacy roles, including serving as President of the YWCA Hunter Region Inc Board and volunteering with the UN Women National Committee Australia.

Her interests include public health approaches to suicide prevention, peer-informed practice in non-peer roles, lived experience ethics, and fostering safe, inclusive environments for disclosure and support across clinical and non-clinical settings.
