Dr Jenn Rumbel is a proud Gamilaraay woman with a passion for empowering Aboriginal people and communities, by building strong relationships and connections and listening to Country.

Dr Rumbel holds undergraduate degrees in Theology and Aboriginal Studies with the University of Newcastle.
Her previous research roles include the Memory Study with the Health Behaviour Research Collaborative at HMRI and Driving Change with the George Institute for Global Health.

She has also demonstrated strong community leadership,serving for seven years on the board of Firstchance, a local
not‑for‑profit early childhood early intervention service supporting a significant number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander children and families. In addition, she has provided cultural supervision and contributed to a number of Aboriginal
advisory groups. She is also trained as a spiritual director and companion.

Dr Rumbel is one of three Research Fellows co-funded by the National Imaging Facility, the Systems Neuroscience Group, and HMRI. In this role, she supports Indigenous collaboration and fosters greater Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ownership in imaging research, with the aim of improving participation, health outcomes and wellbeing for Indigenous Australians.
She has held this position for almost four years and remains energised by the many opportunities it continues to provide.
