The Newcastle Jets are giving fans a once in a lifetime opportunity to bid for their very own match jerseys worn by star players from both the Jets and LA Galaxy competing in Saturday’s Qantas Challenge, with all proceeds going to charity.
From today at 12pm AEDT, the Jets will place six jerseys from each team – including those of Galaxy superstars David Beckham and Landon Donovan and Jets favourites Tarek Elrich and Nikolai Topor-Stanley – up for auction on Ebay.
The auctions will conclude on Tuesday 30 November at 12pm AEDT and all proceeds will go to the Jets’ charity partner, Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI).
The jerseys will be donated by the players involved at half time of Saturday’s highly anticipated Qantas Challenge match at EnergyAustralia Stadium. They will wear a second set of jerseys for the second half.
“The Jets Charity Auction gives fans a chance to secure a sporting memento that will be the envy of football fans around the world,” Jets Executive Chairman Ken Edwards said.
“In doing so, fans will be driving awareness of and contributing to HMRI’s quest of improving the health and wellbeing of people around the world.”
Director of the Hunter Medical Research Institute, Professor Maree Gleeson, said:
“HMRI is honoured to be in partnership with the Newcastle Jets but we believe it is more than a partnership, it is a privilege.
“Today’s announcement truly confirms the Newcastle Jets’ dedication and commitment to improving our community. The club and its management team are an asset to the Hunter.
“Every cent raised from the auction will be invested directly into medical research leading to improved health of people not only here in the Hunter but around the world.
“We sincerely thank the LA Galaxy players for sharing the Newcastle Jets’ vision in making such a valuable contribution to the Hunter and medical research.”
