Clinical Research Network

The HMRI Clinical Research Network (CRN) is a growing community of clinicians, researchers and partners working together to strengthen clinical research across the Hunter New England Health (HNEH) region.

The HMRI Clinical Research Network (CRN) is a growing community of clinicians, researchers and partners working together to strengthen clinical research across the Hunter New England Health (HNEH) region.

It’s a coordinated, clinician-focused network dedicated to building capability, collaboration and bringing real-world impact and change into the health industry.

Support, connection and resources are key to ensure all clinicians and researchers can start, strengthen and share their research, as well as learn from each other and share knowledge to improve patient outcomes.

Research can feel overwhelming for many clinicians – the processes, the paperwork, the time pressures and not knowing where to start. The CRN helps tackle these barriers by providing clear pathways, practical guidance and a supportive community.

Jointly supported by HMRI and the Hunter New England Research Office, the CRN’s purpose is very simple, to make clinical research achievable for everyone, ensuring strong partnerships and a united approach to research across HNEH. It simplifies research navigation, connects clinicians with the right people and resources tailored to real-world clinical environments.

Who can join the CRN?

Whether you’re new to research or already leading major projects our network includes:

  • Emerging and early‑career researchers
  • Experienced clinician‑researchers
  • Research‑interested clinicians exploring new ideas
  • Multidisciplinary teams across regional, rural and remote sites
  • Research managers, coordinators and support staff.

CRN members are required to be affiliated with HMRI.

What sets the CRN apart

The CRN is a unique, empowering and future focused clinical research community, improving research experience and strengthening health in the region.

  • We’re a shared capability, not a silo.
  • The CRN connects existing research activity across HMRI and HNEH rather than duplicating it.
  • Supporting every discipline – nursing, allied health, medical, rural clinicians, dental — everyone belongs here.
  • Reducing barriers – we help time poor clinicians find simple, supported ways into research, even if they don’t know where to start.
  • Building community – members connect across sites, learn from each other, share successes and collaborate on meaningful research.
  • Champion real world impact – CRN projects prioritise patient benefit, local needs, and translation into practice.

If you are interested in joining the HMRI Clinical Research Network, please learn more about affiliation with HMRI and submit your application to affiliate.
