Dr Oya Gumuskaya is a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Sydney, and a senior lecturer at the Western Sydney University, School of Nursing and Midwifery.

Oya completed a Master’s and a PhD in surgical nursing while developing her career from clinical experience to research and education in Australia and Turkiye, collaborating internationally in research, education, and nursing leadership.

Having gained experience in the operating room and intensive care of cardiovascular surgery, she studied perioperative communication, perioperative patient experience and safety, and her passion for perioperative care excellence drove her research focus to implementation science and de-implementing unwarranted practices.
