Dr Begashaw Gebresillassie is a health outcomes researcher with expertise in clinical epidemiology, predictive modelling, palliative care, public health, and pharmacy practice. His research focuses on improving care for people living with chronic diseases by developing clinically feasible and interpretable prediction models to support personalised care planning.
His PhD at the University of Newcastle examined mortality prediction in older women with prevalent chronic conditions, including dementia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and heart failure, using linked administrative and survey data. This work aimed to strengthen risk stratification and support timely, evidence-informed clinical decision-making in chronic disease and palliative care contexts.
Dr Begashaw has experience across quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research, including health data analytics, prognostic model development and validation, patient-reported outcome measurement, and health-related quality of life assessment. He has also contributed to grant-funded public health projects, academic teaching, research mentoring, and collaborative health service research.
