Dr Hema Rajappa is a non-Aboriginal women of Indian heritage specialising in pain medicine physician and early career researcher in Hunter New England for past 20 years. She has worked in healthcare settings in India, Singapore and Australia; interacting with people of different cultures. She has a shared insider/outsider perspective given the European colonisation history of India similar to that of Indigenous Australians and at the same time acknowledging and respecting the unique differences in cultures and traditions. She has a
passion for sharing knowledge and helping patients with chronic pain on their road to recovery, adopting a culturally informed patient-centered community-focused approach.
