Dr Jie Yu

Cardiologist, Hunter New England Health

Cardiologist and clinician-researcher with cross-system experience in China and Australia across heart failure, cardiovascular imaging, cardio-oncology and preventive cardiology.
Author of more than 70 peer-reviewed publications, including first-author papers in JAMA, Cardiovascular Research, ESC Heart Failure and Hypertension.
Research interests span basic science, clinical trials and health services research, with a focus on translating cardiovascular evidence into practical patient care.

Dr Jie (“Tina”) Yu is a cardiologist and clinician-researcher with experience across China and Australia.

She completed her MD and PhD at Peking University and previously worked as a Consultant Cardiologist and Associate Professor at Peking University Third Hospital. After moving to Australia in 2018, she undertook cardiovascular research at The George Institute for Global Health in Sydney before returning to clinical practice in 2022. She completed further physician training at Royal North Shore Hospital and fellowship training at John Hunter Hospital, focusing on heart failure, cardiac imaging and cardio-oncology.

Dr Yu practises across general cardiology and heart failure, with clinical interests in cardio-oncology, echocardiography, coronary artery disease, hypertension and preventive cardiology. Her research spans basic science, clinical trials and health services research, with more than 70 peer-reviewed publications, including first-author papers in JAMA, Cardiovascular Research, ESC Heart Failure and Hypertension, and co-authorship in The New England Journal of Medicine and Circulation.

Dr Yu is a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at the University of Newcastle and previously served as Co-Deputy Director of HMRI’s Heart and Stroke Program. She also supervises medical student research projects, with an interest in supporting clinically relevant cardiovascular research that bridges hospital practice, community cardiology and patient-centred care.
