Developed ADR PES and Meta-Array ML, advancing predictive platforms for adverse drug reaction modelling, precision medicine, and translational research.
Secured internal funding for a novel polymer-conjugated therapeutic platform with translational and commercialisation potential.
Recipient of an industry-linked postdoctoral fellowship supported by CSIRO and Pharmaxis, with leadership experience spanning machine learning, product development, and commercialisation.

Dr Mark Bigland is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Centre for Complex Disease Neurobiology and Precision Medicine at the University of Newcastle. His research sits at the intersection of precision medicine, translational pharmacology, predictive software, and therapeutic innovation. He is particularly interested in developing clinically useful and commercially relevant platforms that improve drug development, patient stratification, adverse drug reaction prediction, and research translation.

Dr Bigland has a broad translational background spanning academia and industry. In addition to his university research, he has held leadership roles in machine learning, product development, and commercialisation, where he worked on the development of novel analytical technologies and applied predictive models across multiple industries. He is also first author on an issued patent for a spectroscopy signal-processing method.

His current work includes development of predictive platforms such as ADR PES and Meta-Array ML, as well as research supporting clinical trial development and translational therapeutic innovation. He has also led project management for completion of a clinical trial ethics application and secured internal funding for a novel polymer-conjugated therapeutic concept.

Through his research, Dr Bigland aims to bridge discovery science, implementation, and commercial translation, with a focus on creating scalable tools and therapeutic strategies that can deliver real-world health impact.
