Dr Masoud Zhianmanesh is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Newcastle, having completed his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Sydney. His research focuses on plasma-enabled surface engineering and the development of functional biomaterial interfaces for translational health applications.
His work centres on the design of robust and linker-free surface modification strategies that enable the immobilisation of biomolecules on polymeric and solid substrates. He has extensive experience in atmospheric-pressure plasma treatments, surface functionalisation, and physicochemical characterisation of engineered interfaces. His research also encompasses the development of composite biomaterial systems that incorporate functional materials with nanoparticles to achieve enhanced performance.
Dr Zhianmanesh’s research is directly relevant to wound care technologies, biosensing platforms, drug delivery systems, and medical device integration. Current projects explore plasma-enabled antibacterial hybrid materials, multifunctional bioactive coatings, and surface-engineered platforms designed for clinically relevant environments.
He has contributed to multiple high-impact publications and is actively involved in interdisciplinary collaborations across materials science, bioengineering, and translational research. His broader research vision is to translate plasma-enabled surface technologies into scalable, robust, and clinically relevant solutions that address unmet healthcare needs.
