Dr Renate Thienel holds a Master’s degree in Psychology and is an Institute-certified Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist. She also holds a PhD in Science and has a strong passion for translating research into evidence-based clinical practice.
Dr Thienel currently works as a Clinical Psychologist Registrar at a community mental health service, where she is committed to supporting underserved and vulnerable populations. Her clinical interests include complex mental health presentations such as schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, trauma-related disorders, and neurodegenerative conditions including dementia.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr Thienel coordinates clinical trials in dementia at the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI), bridging the gap between research and frontline mental health care. She is driven by a deep belief in making cutting-edge science accessible and relevant to the people and communities who need it most.
