Dr Vineeth George is a Staff Specialist in Respiratory and Sleep Medicine and lead of the Pleural Service at the John Hunter Hospital, NSW, Australia. He has completed a two-year clinical and research fellowship at the Oxford Pleural Unit and is a doctoral candidate at the University of Newcastle.
His research focuses on improving pathways and outcomes in pleural disease through imaging, intervention and implementation. He is the Australian lead for PROSPECT, a 5,000-patient, multinational observational study of clinical and sonographic predictors of pleural procedure outcomes. As co-lead of the STREAMLINE feasibility RCT, he is evaluating a strategy of early pleural biopsy and indwelling pleural catheter insertion for suspected malignant pleural effusion.
At an organisational level, he serves as Deputy Convenor of the Thoracic Society Australia New Zealand (TSANZ) Interventional Pulmonology and Pleural Group, is a member of the TSANZ working group developing competency standards in thoracic ultrasound and chest drain insertion, and is a co-author of the European Respiratory Society Statement on Benign Pleural Effusions.
He has been faculty on thoracic ultrasound and pleural intervention courses for the British Thoracic Society and TSANZ, has published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters in pleural disease, and serves as an Associate Editor of Breathe.
