Tour de Cure PhD Support Grant (2024/2025): Secured a competitive $10,000 research grant for the project ‘Non-Invasive Thermometry of Brain Tumours’
HDR Student Festival Poster Prize (2025): Won the Poster Presentation section for Discovery/basic science or related clinical science within the University of Newcastle’s School of Medicine & Public Health.
First-Author Publication (2026): Lead author of a narrative review investigating human brain temperature dysregulation, published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Neurophysiology.

Christian Behler is a PhD researcher and physicist specialising in advanced medical imaging for neuro-oncology. Based at the University of Newcastle and the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI), his work is based within the Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF) Centre for Brain Cancer Research, where he is supported by the MHF Willgoose Scholarship.

Christian’s research focuses on improving the precision of brain cancer diagnostics and monitoring through new applications in diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) thermometry. By developing non-invasive imaging workflows, his project aims to provide clinicians with precise measurements of tumor microenvironments to inform better-targeted therapies.

Before transitioning into medical research, Christian worked in Germany as a secondary school physics and mathematics educator, alongside work in material science. This background in physics and education shapes his current work in translational medicine, applying data analytics and computational physics to create practical, clinical tools for brain cancer patients.
