Sid Acharya is a PhD candidate at the University of Newcastle and Hunter Medical Research Institute, under the supervision of Dr. Joshua Fisher, Professor Kirsty Pringle, and Dr. John Schjenken.
As a structural biologist, Sid’s research focuses on using volume electron microscopy and cryo-electron microscopy to study 3D mitochondrial structure in the human placenta. By understanding why mitochondrial structure is impaired in pregnancy complications like fetal growth restriction, Sid aims to develop therapeutics that can target mitochondrial structure to improve placental function and pregnancy outcomes.
