Mr Sourav Dutta

PhD Candidate, University of Newcastle

Research Programs

Casual Lecturer, University of Newcastle
Treasurer, HMRI Student Society

Sourav’s research focuses on discovering novel treatment strategies for Inflammatory Bowel Disease. His research involves mining trillions of microbial sequences from metagenomic datasets to identify microbial species and functional signatures associated with disease onset, progression, and treatment response.

His expertise lies in computational analysis of high-throughput sequencing data using a wide range of bioinformatic pipelines, statistical frameworks, and data visualization techniques. He works extensively with large-scale metagenomic datasets on high-performance computing systems, combining programming, data science, and microbiology to answer clinically relevant biological questions.

Sourav’s work reflects a strong passion for computational biology, data-driven discovery, and the growing intersection between microbiome research and artificial intelligence.
