Professor Deborah Harris is a Professor of Nursing and Midwifery Research with the University of Newcastle and Hunter New England Local Health District. She is an internationally recognised neonatal researcher, nurse practitioner leader, and clinician-scientist whose work focuses on improving outcomes for babies, families, and health services.

Professor Harris was the first registered Nurse Practitioner in Aotearoa New Zealand and has made sustained contributions to advanced nursing practice, neonatal hypoglycaemia research, workforce development, and research capacity building in nursing and midwifery. Her research has informed clinical practice internationally, including the prevention and treatment of neonatal hypoglycaemia. She is committed to supporting clinically relevant, equity-focused research that strengthens care, builds capability, and translates into meaningful health impact.
