Research Programs

Dr Edwina Mingay is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Newcastle’s School of Medicine and Public Health.
Following a career as a Financial Controller in private industry, primarily book publishing, Dr Mingay pursued further education and completed a Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics with Class 1 Honours (2014) and earned her PhD in public health nutrition (2024).

Between educational pursuits, Dr Mingay worked as a private practice dietitian delivering care to clients, and as a Research Assistant, where she developed and delivered education modules for a community-based nutrition program for older adults.
During this time, she was drawn to the research world. Her primary area of interest is about adolescent health and wellbeing. This passion was reflected in her PhD, titled Food Culture of Australian Adolescents – What We Know and Where We Need to Go.

Dr Mingay aims to integrate her diverse professional and life experiences to support the advancement of people’s health, wellbeing, aspirations, and continued learning. She is currently involved in two research projects: (1) a Phase 3 clinical trial for young people with excess weight and weight-related health conditions, and (2) a study examining nutrition in young people living with an inborn error of immunity.
