Disco fever was in the air, and ladies and gentlemen enjoyed a night at ‘Studio 25’ for the glamorous and glittering affair that was the 2023 HMRI Ball.
Celebrating HMRI’s 25th Anniversary, the ball raised a record-breaking $218,000 for medical research.
HMRI Director, Professor Frances Kay-Lambkin praised the generosity of our community.
“On behalf of everyone at HMRI, we are all so grateful for the amazing generosity within our community and their commitment to supporting the work that HMRI and our researchers do.”
The Newcastle business and art communities donated several prizes including a European river cruise, a diamond and pink tourmaline dress ring, a private dinner by chef Tim Montgomery, a luxurious Porsche experience, and many more.
The 2023 HMRI Art Series, a painting by Mitch Revs entitled ‘Seedling’ inspired by the work of HMRI 2022 Researcher of the Year, Professor Brett Nixon and his work in male infertility, was sold under the hammer for $7,000.
The HMRI Art Series is made possible each year by the generosity of Adjunct Professor Chris Piggott and Mrs Shirley Piggott.
The HMRI Ball is also not possible without the wonderful work done by the HMRI Foundation, especially Susan Michilis, Amy-Lea Pettigrew, Frances Crampton, and Michelle Lawson, who tirelessly volunteer their time to support HMRI.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our major sponsors, Fourth Wave Wine, Scarborough Wine Co., De Iuliis Wines, Tyrrell’s Wines, Tulloch Wines, Balter Brewing Co., Peter Herd Florist, Big Bang Events,
Scion Audio and Events, Pettigrew Family Funerals, Walkom Real Estate, Markey Insurance and Risk and The Bloomfield Group
Also, a huge thank you to all the businesses and individuals who provided prizes and gifts in kind which contributed to making the night such a success.
HMRI would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and live, the Awabakal and Worimi peoples, and pay our respects to Elders past and present. We recognise and respect their cultural heritage and beliefs and their continued connection to their land.
